What I am writing about today you might ask and that is my experience at Robert Morris University. It was a field that was planned through the school in my anatomy class with Mrs. Jackman. This field trip included the awakening at 6:00 to get there in time to leave. We were provided with treats for breakfast, so it was a good morning. Unfortunately, we had to ride the bus for at least 2 hours and 30 minutes. I was happy with getting a back seat because the first thing I did was fall asleep. On the bus it was cold because the heater didn’t do much, but I had fun getting more sleep in.
We arrived at the building and we hurried over to take a group photo which was a little awkward. Upon planning for the trip we had to sign up to which group we wanted to take part in. I signed into the group called The Amazing Race. After everyone had decided on a group we got different colored wrist bands like we were part of a system. According to the color, this is where you sat in the building, that part got me a little anxious because I was no longer allowed to sit with my sister. Sitting there and waiting we stood up, representing our school and got to know the faculty and some of the student mentors that were there. It was a friendly environment and everyone was explaining why they chose RMU and was very kind to everyone.
Our red team headed to the building for the healthcare activities that were planned. There were an estimated 8-9 schools, so it was very packed in the room. Since we were split into colors it was way more organized. The first activity was to remember things that could be said in a hospital. I learned that things could be misled and to have good communication is very key because we need to make sure we don’t get anything wrong. The second activity was to decode medical terms, which was really fun because Mrs. Turben’s class really gave my group the upper hand since we already knew them. The third activity was putting together the bones for a hand and changing a sheet on the bed. I was proud of my group because we kept getting first so it was really fun to kind of get a refresher of all the things we knew.
After all the activities we headed to lunch and it was decent. I enjoyed it. All the schools came back and I was reunited with my sister and we had a debrief with everyone so we were able to ask any questions if we had any. Overall, I had a great time and it was a really good experience. I also hope more students will attend in the future because it could be really eye opening for them.
