The X-Men have always been the greatest Marvel team! The live action films are super, and so was the 1992 animated series that will forever be the best. That show has such a comforting vibe even though it goes over serious things like the division of humanity and not fitting in. For a cartoon it truly gives a realistic representation of what life could be like if mutants existed while also staying relevant and fun for the kids. That’s what was great about ’90s cartoons, was that they were designed to be fun for all ages. The show captured so much greatness in its five season run. Here are the top ten X-Men: The Animated Series episodes ranked by us, Jacoby McIntyre and Aiden Williams:
- S4 E1: The Juggernaut Returns
This was a good way to bring back the beloved character Juggernaut. It was an action packed episode with an exciting plot. The hype was definitely there before watching the episode, after reading the title!
- S2 E6: X-Ternally Yours
Gambit starts off controlling the Danger Room in this episode which is a simulation chamber that allows the X-Men to practice battle. We always love the Danger Room sequences. They made the whole episode for us. We loved seeing Gambit in this one. The story focuses a lot on him.
- S2 E12: Reunion (Part 1)
This is a really great episode. Mostly because of the dinosaurs. Also we liked how we got to see Professor X, and Magneto work together regardless of their usual disagreements.
- S1 E1: Night of the Sentinels (Part 1)
The pilot! The one that started it all. It introduced us to some of the finest characters straight from the comics, Rogue, Beast, Wolverine, Gambit, Jean Grey…. Um… Jubilee… Ya know, a lot of people say Jubilee was a very annoying character; we won’t say anything specific other than, she didn’t ruin the show for us. No, she can shoot fireworks out of her hands, that’s great! She gets a bad rep, and we would probably not like her if she was the center of attention every episode, but as far as the pilot goes, we think she does a good job at introducing us to the X-Men! It was a great episode, and she played a part in that.
- S2 E9: A Rogue’s Tale
Rogue is my favorite of the X-Men alongside Wolverine, so we liked an episode that focused mainly on her. It was a really great episode where we got to learn more about her. Rogue’s voice actor killed it as always! Great episode.
- S2 E1: Till Death Do Us (Part 1)
In this episode we see Cyclops and Jean Grey try to get married, but that ends up getting ruined due to Mr. Sinister. We liked the part of this episode where Wolverine goes into the Danger Room (a simulation room) and fights “Cyclops” who is actually just a robot to simulate that he’s fighting Cyclops. But still, it was a really cool fight! Made the whole episode.
- S1 E8: The Unstoppable Juggernaut
This is a fun episode where we get to see Colossus and Juggernaut face off. It is a really great episode with a lot of action.
- S4 E16: Weapon X, Lies and Videotape
We like this episode because it dives into Wolverine’s complicated past and reveals a lot about his personality. Wolverine is already an entertaining character, but with such a plot you got to love him even more!
- S2 E11: Mojovision
This episode featured a fat cyborg creature named Mojo. He manages to capture all of the X-men and put them on a television. It is really weird and really fun. We also get to see a futuristic Punisher make an appearance.
- S1 E6: Cold Vengeance
This one was fantastic. We got to explore the winter environments with Wolverine and embark on his journey of eskimos and being hunted by Sabertooth. It was a really fun episode that we thoroughly enjoyed.
That is our rankings. It was hard to limit it to a top ten since literally every episode of this series is solid gold. You can’t go wrong with any episode, so if you haven’t seen the show, then ‘seen’ it now!
