Your room reflects your mind. Everyone you have ever loved has been in it. It is a time capsule. It is a haven or sanctuary. I have been through three different rooms, each taking over a different persona. Each room reflects the era I am in and transcends the thoughts in my mind to my walls, floors, and doors.
My first documented experience with interior design was in the endless isles of the Tampa Ikea. I don’t really know why but something clicked, and I thought from then on I want my room to look like it was out of a catalog. Every Christmas instead of asking for toys and clothes I was asking for bedding, rugs, and light fixtures. I know it is odd to be unwrapping a headboard on Christmas morning, but being in a space you enjoy looking at really does improve your mental health.
Now that it is senior year and I have been in my “new” house for about five years, my dream bedroom is relatively complete. Reflecting all the way back to my first tour of the house, out of all four rooms I chose the one with an attached sunroom, obviously. I have always tried to incorporate unique aspects into my bedroom, so in the past I have had loft beds, lizard tanks, and plants galore. The sunroom of my current bedroom is the selling point. Describing my bedroom, which you will be able to see in the pictures attached: Majority of my furniture is from Ikea and all was built by myself. My experience and practice with building Lego have now translated into building adult furniture. Wall collages that are a mixture of paintings, shelving, art, and signs are also around my room. Plants and little trinkets are sprinkled throughout. The main attraction from my bedroom now is, of course, my fish tank, which is in the center place when you open the door to my bedroom. The color scheme is greens, blues, grays, and blacks.
My room is my top priority and it should be yours, too.
