On March 21, 2024, popular rapper Future dropped a much anticipated album in collaboration with producer Metro Boomin’. At base level, this album seems like a regular rap album, talking about money, women and street stuff. Although, if you dig deeper there is a way bigger meaning behind this.
The album starts out with the interlude “We Don’t Trust You,” which talks about Future having a fake friend that leaves him over a girl. This leads into the song “Type [expletive deleted]” where Future references he doesn’t “hang with rats” leading the listener to believe that he is directing this album towards a fake friend.
The next song Future says “Do somethin’ else, stop tryna do what everybody else doin’,” which is him calling out someone for copying him. This song fades into the sixth track called “Like That” in which popular rapper, and enemy of Drake, Kendrick Lamar is featured.
This song really shows the listener what kind of timing Future was on, and who he is beefing with. Kendrick states “[expletive deleted] sneak dissin’ first-person shooter, I hope they came with three switches” and “[expletive deleted] the big three, its just big me.” This is referencing Drakes song “First-Person Shooter” where Drake supposedly calls out Kendrick.
The first nine songs are definitely the best of the album, with the second half being very lackluster. Although the last eight songs were mediocre, the first nine really make up for it with all the dirt and juiciness included in these. Metro Boomin’ and Future are an amazing combination, expanding their legacies by starting friendly competition between other artists and producers.
If I had to rate this album out of 5 it would be a strong 3.5/5 to a light 4/5.
