Beavers fall short to the Knights

Boys basketball lose to Franklin

The Beavers welcomed the Franklin Knights on Wednesday, January 4. The game was originally supposed to be at Franklin but was changed due to a cancellation on Tuesday, January 3.

The night began at 6 p.m. with the JV boys who lost to Franklin’s JV team. The night continued with Varsity starting at 7:30 p.m. The Beavers started off with a slow start, falling 7-23. The offense was not able to succeed to the best of their abilities against the Knights tight defense.

The Beavers made a comeback, just falling short of eight points at halftime, with the score of 39-31. During halftime the Corry Girls Volleyball team was recognized for both their team and their individual success.

During the third quarter both teams showed great efforts as the game got closer to its end. The score being 49-38 at the end of the third quarter, the Knights being up by nine.

The suspense was high throughout the final quarter of the game, as the Beavers were finally able to make it a close game against the Knights. Coming close, just behind by two points with 1:37 left in the game. Both teams kept scoring, keeping the energy in the stands high. There were 00:49 seconds left of the game with a score of 63-61, Franklin in the lead. With just 12 seconds left of the game Corry allowed Franklins #5 Jalen Wood two  foul shots, giving the Knights one extra point, making the score 66-61.

The Beavers were unable to make a comeback and fell short after a hard fought game. The boys basketball season record is now 11-4.

When asked what the team could have done differently to play better, senior starter Tavon Kornikoski said, “If we switched in the first quarter when we were on defense, I think that the whole game would have gone better, because we were scoring more points from the second quarter on.”
