This week the Beavers went against the CASH Eagles, and the Oil City Oilers
Boys basketball recap

On Tuesday, January 16, the Corry Beavers played against the CASH Eagles at home. JV started at 6 p.m., and varsity followed at 7:30 p.m. Both teams secured a win against the Eagles with the score for the final score for JV being 49-30, and Varsity was 74-56. The Beaver went into this game with an overall record of 9-2, and the Eagles with an overall record of 7-5.

The JV team had a solid performance throughout the night against the Eagles winning at halftime with the score being 33-17 a major lead for the Beavers. In the second half the Eagles came out scoring a bit, but the Beavers still kept a lead not letting up.  The boys ended up winning the game by 19 points. The scoring stats for Corry JV against the Eagles was; Nick Scouten with 14 points, Parker Trask with 13 points, Keaton Frisina with nine points, Landon Atha with seven points, Gavin Kent, Landon Deane, and Kayden McCray all contributed a bucket. For the P2 Paving Post Game Show presented by Deej Expierence, the Offensive Player was Nick Scouten for his three-point shot in the fourth quarter, the Defensive Player was Kayden McCray for his charge early on in the game, and the Player of the Game was Keaton Frisina for his overall great performance.

The varsity starting lineup for the Eagles was junior point guard #2 Shakiir Jordan, senior point guard #3 Aiden Tyson, junior shooting guard #5 Gage Long, sophomore small forward #23 Alex Brady, and senior shooting guard #33 Greg Klink.

The starting line-up for the Beavers was: senior forward #4 Tavon Kornikoski, senior forward #15 Markus Lambert, senior guard #23 Rylan Smith, junior point guard #3 Karson Chamberlin, and sophomore guard #2 Kamdyn Moon.

For the Varsity game the tip off was between Smith and Brady. Smith won the tip off, but the ball got turned over to the Eagles. Tyson shot a three-pointer at the start, making the score 3-0 on the scoreboard making the Eagles ahead of the Beavers. Sophomore Moon, and junior Chamberlin had a great game from taking charges to shooting eight three-pointers! Moon was shooting to break the record set by former Corry graduate Logan Joncas for the most three-pointers in a game, which is held at nine. Moon finished the night with eight three-pointers total, almost tying the record. Chamberlin took a hard charge to the ground, and kept a solid defense throughout the night. The Beavers had, as a whole, great defense the whole night, preventing the Eagles from scoring a lot. By halftime Corry was up 36-21 leading into the second half of the game with a comfortable lead. The Eagles came out strong in the second half though scoring quite a few points, but the Beavers performance still stayed solid. The Beavers won against the Eagles, beating them by 18 points.

The point stats for Corry: leading was Moon with 24, all points were three-pointers, Lambert with 23 points, Chamberlin with 15 points, Smith with eight points, and Kornikoski with two points. For the P2 Paving Post Game Show presented by Deej Experience the Offensive player was Kamdyn Moon for all eight of his three-point shots. For the Defensive player it was co-players Moon and Chamberlin for their hard to the ground charges, and the two also earned co-players of the game.

On Friday, January 19, the Corry Beavers traveled to Oil City to go head-to-head against the Oilers, who are going into the game with an overall record of 10-3. This is the second region game for the Corry Beavers, the first one being a win over CASH earlier in the week. The JV lost 49-42, and the varsity also took a loss of 53-37.

The starting line-up for the Beavers was: senior forward #4 Tavon Kornikoski, senior forward #15 Markus Lambert, senior guard #23 Rylan Smith, junior point guard #3 Karson Chamberlin, and sophomore guard #2 Kamdyn Moon.

The starting line-up for the Oilers was: senior forward #2 Ethen Knox, junior guard #10 Will McMahon, senior guard #20 Jon Hargenrader, senior forward #21 Sayyid Donald, and senior point guard #22 Colin Liederbach.

To start off, the game the tip off was Smith (Corry) vs Donald (Oil City), and the result was Smith won. The Beavers didn’t score a point after they won the ball, so Donald put the first points on the board for the Oilers by getting a rebound bucket. The Oilers had great defense and made a lot of their shots, the Beavers could just not form a solid defense nor make shots that they usually make. By halftime the score was 26-16, the Oilers with a 10-point lead against the Beavers. In the second half of the game, the Oilers came out more aggressively, gaining more baskets, and getting to shoot multiple foul shots. The Oilers ended up winning by 16 points.

The point stats for the Oilers: Donald with 20 points, Chase Melat with 12 points, McMahon with 10 points, Hargenrader with seven points, Liederbach with three points, and Knox with one bucket.

The point stats for the Beavers: Smith led with 19 points, Lambert with nine points, Moon with six points, and Chamberlin with three  points. Chosen by Deej Experience Sports Broadcasting, the Offensive Player of the Game was Smith for scoring three three-pointers in the second half of the game, which gained the Beavers some points. The defensive player of the game was Chamberlin for taking three charges the whole night. Finally, the player of the game was Smith for leading the team with the most points, and for his overall performance.
