Beavers gain another win under their belt

Corry secures an easy win over Northwestern
Beavers gain another win under their belt

On Wednesday, January 10, the Corry boys basketball team headed up to Northwestern to play the Wildcats; JV started at 6 p.m., and Varsity followed at 7:30pm. Both the JV and the Varsity won against the Wildcats with the scores being 47-25 (JV), and 74-40 (Varsity). Going into the game the Beavers had an overall record of 8-2, and the Wildcats had an overall record of 0-9. The Beavers had previously played the Wildcats over Christmas break at the Jim Gruca Tournament, and they secured an easy win with a big lead the whole game.

The JV game started off with the tip off Parker Trask (Corry) vs Reece Gonzales (Northwestern). Northwestern won the tip off, then went down the court, and scored a layup putting 2  points on the board for the Wildcats. By halftime the Beavers had a lead with the score being 17-11. Corry played a really good hustle defense in the second half coming out and dominating Northwestern for the rest of the game getting a  big lead. They were making lots of baskets and guarding the Wildcats, so they had no chance to score. The point stats for Corry JV was; leading with nine points was Nick Scouten and Landon Deane, Keaton Frisina had six points, Landon Atha has six points, Parker Trask had four points, Zach Turben had three points, and Kayden McCray had two points. The player of the game was Deane, the offensive player of the game also went to Deane, and the defensive player was Frisina. All of these were chosen by Deej Experience Sports Broadcasting.

The line up for the varsity was: senior forward #4 Tavon Kornikoski, senior forward #15 Markus Lambert, senior guard #23 Rylan Smith, junior point guard #3 Karson Chamberlin, and sophomore guard #2 Kamdyn Moon.

The starting line up for the Wildcats was: Senior Guard #11 Cole Wickervitch, Senior Guard #3 Blake Gonzales, Senior Center #12 Caleb Glasl, Senior Guard #13 Jake Regalmann, and Senior Guard #34 Jack Miller.

The Varsity game started off with the tip off and the Wildcats won it with Glasl (Northwestern) and Smith (Corry) going head to head. As soon as the ball was tipped off Northwestern knocked it out of bounds, and then it was Corry’s ball. Corry got the ball, and then Smith went up for a layup starting the Beavers off with two points on the board. The Corry team had good defense the whole game, and made it almost impossible for the Wildcats to score.

The main defensive stars of the game were Kornikoski, Frisina, and Chamberlin. They were constantly guarding effectively, getting the rebounds, and stealing the ball. The score at half-time was 37-17, Corry with the lead.

The point stats for Corry varsity were: Rylan Smith 16 points, Markus Lambert 11 points, Keaton three points, Kamdyn 11 points, Karson nine points, Tavon six points, Nick Scouten with three points, and Brendan Lindstrom with five points.

From the Northwestern team the varsity point stats were Jack Miller leading with 10 points, Caleb Glasl with seven points, Blake Gonzales seven points, Cole Mikovch, and Jake Regelmann with four points. Player of the game chosen by Deej Experience LLC. was the whole team. Everyone played well, and contributed to the team in their own way. Everyone ended up getting on the court that game, and a majority of the players contributed points. The offensive player of the game was Karson Chamberlin, and the defensive player of the game was Keaton Frisina.

After the game, Coach Bailey said, “It went as good as it could have. We did our job, we pressured well and made them make a lot of mistakes. We didn’t shoot great, but our defense helped us out a lot. We shot good from the free throw line. ”
