Once again this year, members of the Beaver Tales staff were asked to share their favorite holiday songs and a few words about why they love it. Please enjoy this eclectic mix of music as we head into the winter break:
Joseph Johnston: Brenda Lee, “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree” 1958 (Bailando Rock Alrededor del Árbol de Navidad) This song will always hold a special place in my heart because I remember when I was a little kid, my parents and I would groove to it in the living room while intermittently decorating our Christmas tree. Legend has it that the guitarist, Bob Moore, and the sax player, Boots Randolph, played their parts in just one take. This includes my favorite part, the explosive sax solo in the middle of the song. What a classic.
Gavin Kent: “Lights On (feat. Ryan Beatty and Santigold)” by Tyler the Creator is definitely my favorite holiday song, and is from an amazing holiday album, too.
Carter Slocum: I have several favorite Christmas songs, but one of my favorites is “Silver Bells.” It is my favorite because it was also my grandma’s favorite, who passed away. Now every time I hear this classic in stores or in the car during the holiday season, I think of all of the memories I have with her.
Jenna Martin: “Mistletoe” by Justin Beiber. I love Justin very much. The song is very good and positive.
Cooper Slocum: “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home),” Darlene Love
Julie-Anne Snyder: My favorite holiday song is “Frosty the Snowman.” This song is my favorite because it shows the Christmas magic to kids.
Ruthie Light: My favorite Christmas song is “Hard Candy Christmas” by Dolly Parton because it is very sentimental to me and I just love the vibes. It is a very fun, poppy, holiday song that makes me especially excited for Christmas. Also, I just love Dolly Parton because she is an icon and her music is so classic and catchy.
Reagan White: My favorite Christmas song is pretty popular but I can’t help but love it. “Last Christmas” by Wham! is my top song. It’s my favorite because it reminds me of 2022. It was a great Christmas for me and I had that song on repeat. Many positive memories!
Sylas Bryan: “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer” – It’s a classic and brings me back to when I was little, when we used to sing in front of our parents and such. It also brings me back to when I believed in Santa. (For those of you who don’t know, Santa is real.)
Kylynn Deane: My favorite Christmas song is “Christmas Tree Farm” by Taylor Swift. Obviously since Taylor sings it I love it even more, but it gives off such a great feeling like most other holiday songs. Also, my family always cuts down our own tree from a Christmas tree farm, so I can relate to that.
Landon Deane: “Happy Xmas (War is Over)”
Anita Fisher: My favorite holiday song is “All I Want For Christmas is You” by Mariah Carey. This is my favorite song because it is always a song that gets my attention, and it makes the season feel more festive. This is also one of my favorite songs because it is so well known everyone knows it.
Regan Kemp: My favorite Christmas song is “Underneath the Tree” by Kelly Clarkson. This is my favorite song because it is very upbeat and fun to listen to. Kelly Clarkson also adds a lot of emotion to her singing which makes the song even better.
Kenzie Knight: “Silent Night” by Taylor Swift
Izabella Palczer: “Santa Claus Is Comin’ to Town.” It is my favorite Christmas song because I hear it in almost every Christmas movie, so that has made me grow to like it more and more. I like the upbeat and not slow versions. My favorite movie it has been in is the first “Home Alone,” when Kevin is running away from the police officer.
Cameron Richards: “All I want for Christmas is You” by Mariah Carey
Hannah Roach: “Mistletoe” by Justin Bieber
Amber Straub: “Six White Boomers” is my favorite holiday song because of our librarian when we were younger, Mrs. Chapel. Those days were some of my favorite.
Aiden Williams: Ray Charles’ “The Spirit of Christmas” because it is well composed, peaceful, and enjoyable to listen to while bringing out the true feelings of the holiday. It is underrated and not one of the most played songs, which makes me mad.
Willow Bowen: My favorite Christmas song is “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” by Band Aid. This was super iconic because all these popular 80’s singers got together and raised money for the 1983 -1985 famine in Ethiopia.
MaKenna Moore: My favorite holiday song is “Last Christmas” by Wham! This song is my favorite because I enjoy the meaning behind it and the lyrics. This song just always manages to get me in the Christmas mood. This song is also played in one of my favorite holiday movies.
Mr. McBriar: This year, I added “Merry Xmas Everybody” by Slade to the playlist. From 1973, this is the song that makes me the most hyped for the holiday due to its classic rock sound and singalong chorus.
