Halloween is on the way and what’s better than watching the notorious Michael Myers ruin the town of Haddonfield and slashing whoever gets in his way while he’s doing it. I have just watched the movie “Halloween Ends” directed by David Gordon Green, which came out October 14, 2022, and I would like to give a review on the movie. If you would guess who the killer of the movie is without watching this you would most likely say Michael Myers, which is the obvious answer, or is it?
This movie takes a new route with Michael Myers hiding in an underground well and scouting a new killer for Haddonfield’s upcoming Halloween. The new character is Corey Cunningham played by Rohan Campbell. After a huge mistake, Corey gets labeled as a bunch of different names like killer babysitter and murderer. Corey seems to have gotten his life together the best he could’ve done and he meets Andi, who he starts dating. Andi is the granddaughter of Laurie Strode, who has had a past with Michael Myers. Throughout the movie, Corey kills people in an honor of trying to impress and take over as Michael Myers while trying to hide this secret from Andi. However, Laurie starts to get suspicious of Corey. The movie is filled with action and a thrilling ending.
If you want to see an extremely gory and action-packed movie, then this is a great movie to watch. One not so good thing is that they went away from the Michael Myers story and focused on a new character. However, I love the addition of the new killer Corey Cunningham, even though we might be missing out on the last of seeing Myers.
The special effects in this movie were great. They did a great job at making realistic deaths. The writing was good for the most part, however, it may be hard to understand the movie without watching the others before. The soundtrack was great, which was expected for these movies, and the actors did well. One con of this movie was that they introduced Corey as a good young adult who is being wrongfully accused of something, so after he starts turning evil, it is hard to know how to feel about the character. The end is very effective to wrap up this movie.
My final verdict of this movie is that it may not be as you will expect, however, if you get into the movie it is very good. The group of people who would like this movie is anywhere from 17 and above because this movie is rated R. If you are a parent and want to watch this movie as a family, make sure to research some of the violence and gore before making the decision if you should allow them to watch it or not.
My review out of 5 is going to be a 4, mainly because of the absence throughout the movie of Michael Myers. However, if you come to enjoy the new killer like I did, then this will be a great movie to watch.
