On Wednesday, September 27, the Corry Volleyball team hosted their annual charity night.
Last year’s charity that was chosen was Avery’s Pawsitive Change, this year’s charity was dedicated to State Trooper Jacques ‘Jay’ Rougeau. Rougeau was 20 years old when he was interviewed to be a State Trooper. Rougeau was a Corry High graduate for the class of 2012, and then went on to college at Penn State Behrend. Rougeau sadly passed away in the line of duty on Saturday, June 17.
The scholarship was setup and organized by Rougeau’s 2012 Corry High classmates. The volleyball team chose this particular cause to support because he was a Corry alumni, and his wife Chloe was a 2013 volleyball alumnus. Some other Corry alumni volleyball players from the class of 2012 came to watch the Lady Beavers, and support this important cause.
At the game there was an announcement honoring Rougeau and his family and many pictures taken with other State Troopers, and there were 50/50 raffles, a lottery basket, shirts, bracelets, and many other items being sold that honored and represented Officer Rougeau. All benefits from selling those items also went to the scholarship.
The fundraiser for Trooper Jacques “Jay” Rougeau Memorial Scholarship had a goal of raising $5,000. The donors and attendees of the volleyball game exceeded that goal earning up to $7,300 for the scholarship as of Monday, September 30.
The girls played Seneca High School, who also showed up in blue to show their respect and support towards the cause. Both teams took a picture together. The volleyball team also took a picture with the Rougeau Family and other state police officers. The girls beat Seneca in three sets.
The Corry community really came out and supported their own on Wednesday night, raising up over $7,000 for a Corry alum that lost his life too soon. The Corry community is known for supporting each other, and it’s a great thing to see that all that money went to a great cause.
