At Corry Area High School there are a lot of new faces. The new Spanish 1 teacher’s name is Ms. Smith. She was born in Union City and went to Union City High School. For college she attended Susquehanna University, Edinboro University, and Wilkes University.
Before working here at Corry Ms. Smith taught music and Spanish at Iroquois High School, then she taught at a private school in Erie, where she taught all subjects for fourth-fifth grade. She also home-schooled her children, so she has had a long teaching career with lots of experience. Also, before her teaching career started at Corry she was a professional singer, actress, and a nanny.
When asked why she chose to teach Spanish, Smith said, “It chose me– I didn’t know Spanish, and I wanted to learn more languages. So I ended up learning Spanish and French.” Her favorite Spanish word is Tegucigalpa, which is the capital of Honduras.
What Ms. Smith is looking forward to most about teaching at Corry High is teaching the students and helping them learn Spanish. When asked what her favorite thing is about Spanish, she said that it was the whole culture altogether. She lived in Spain for a couple of years, and she loved the whole atmosphere.
These are a few of Ms. Smith’s favorite things and hobbies. When asked what her favorite subject in school was she answered that it was music. Ms. Smith’s hobbies consist of playing piano, guitar, singing, and cooking. Ms. Smith is big into music, and absolutely loves it! Her favorite movie is called “What about Bob?” and her favorite book is the whole Harry Potter series.
Her dream vacation would have to be with her family and in either Bali or Indonesia. Lastly her favorite quote is by Deepak Chopra, “Be happy like a child for no reason.”
