Behind the scenes of Corry’s ‘Les Mis’

Cooper Slocum, Jayden Southworth, and this reporter on stage during a performance of Les Miserables

The Corry Musical cast and staff were not expecting such a big boom of people to come to this year’s show, and they were (myself included) scrambling to get ready for the show itself. This article will be going over some behind the scenes things that the cast of “Les Mis” were struggling with or excelling at during or before the show.

Each and every cast member had their struggles and a lot of that struggle was comprised of changing into our different costumes. The boys in the play had three different outfits at the very least. It was hard to get changed during the show because of how fast we had to get changed. Within less than five minutes some people had to change twice.

Another big struggle was moving props and sets onto the stage, especially the bridge that Javert dies on in Act II. It was a big struggle to move it on and off because of the noise it made and along with that the barricade was the loudest to move on to stage because of all the moving parts and because it had to be placed perfectly.

Other than the struggles everyone had so much fun during and out of the play, there were times before and during intermission that the cast would get together and scream out popular songs.

Every single person in the cast and in the stage crew did an absolute amazing job even after all the hardships and it play was packed to the brim in the auditorium. It was a pleasure for this reporter to work with all of them and get ready for next year’s play, which will hopefully be even better or on par with “Les Misérables.”
