The Cleveland Browns, an NFL team that finished 5-12 last season, are a team that is heavily criticized for not having an answer for quarterback, ever. But, they finally figured it out. This past season proved it: the Browns have the answer in the backfield, the leader that they need, the backbone of their team. In fact, I’d even argue that they have the best quarterback room in the National Football League. Here’s why:
The Browns have two quarterbacks that are amazing players: Shedeur Sanders and Deshaun Watson. Did you know that the Browns are the only NFL team to have two quarterbacks with an MVP vote? Yeah, exactly. Let’s talk about Shedeur Sanders first.
Shedeur Sanders, AS A ROOKIE, finished 34th in MVP voting this past season. He also made the Pro Bowl as a rookie. That is insane. That’s a feat that players like Drake Maye, Andrew Luck, Russel Wilson, Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, and so many more didn’t reach. If Shedeur is already reaching marks like this, imagine what he can reach in two years and more. He is in company with Cam Newton, CJ Stroud, and Jayden Daniels; all some of the best rookie quarterbacks ever. Cam Newton went on to win an MVP just four years after. Tom Brady, a player that Shedeur has already beat out (relevant to age), went on to win seven Super Bowls, with five Super Bowl MVPs and three regular season MVPs. There is nothing stopping Shedeur from reaching that. NFL analysts across the league agree on this statement: the future is bright for Shedeur Sanders. If his future is bright as a quarterback, the future for the Browns franchise is just as bright, if not brighter. Let’s also not forget that Shedeur Sanders is 24 years old, super young for a quarterback. This guy will be something special, even next year.
Now let’s talk about Deshaun Watson. Deshaun Watson once went up 24-0 against a prime Patrick Mahomes in the playoffs. Watson, that same year, was third in MVP voting per week 14 polls, and he was second in voting per week 12 votes. Deshaun Watson led his Clemson team to the National Championship in 2016– who’s to say he can’t do that for the Browns? He has the experience, the talent, and the leadership to be insane this upcoming year. He is a three time pro bowler, led the NFL in passing yards, was all rookie team, he won AFC offensive player of the month twice, and AFC player of the week five times. With Watson’s past success, the Browns can do real damage when he gets the chance to replicate it this coming year.
The Browns have a perfect mix of experience and potential between two MVP quarterbacks in their QB room. With this deadly combo, expect them to do some serious damage this year. When Watson comes back from injury, this team will be scary. I expect them to go 12-5 and win their division this year; you should expect nothing less.
