There are so many animals in Disney movies, shows, and productions. Sidekicks, on the other hand– there are very few good ones that I can think of. Here is my official list of the top 10 best animal sidekicks in all of Disney.
10. At the 10th place spot is Stitch from Lilo and Stitch. Stitch is an alien, but he was briefly a “dog.” And, he was very funny and unique. Whether wrecking things, or learning what family really was, which is really sad and emotional he still found a way to make us smile and laugh.
9. At the 9th place spot is Meeko from Pocahontas. He is almost like a brother to Pocahontas in the way he is protective of her when John Smith comes into the picture. He keeps his distance while also trying to make distance between John and Pocahontas. Plus, his enemy to friend relationship with the pug, is so funny, and a good representation of Pochahontas and John’s relationship.
8. At the 8th place spot is Maximus from Rapunzel. Max is after Flynn Ryder throughout the whole movie– he is at first trying to capture Flynn, then he is forced to be on his side. Then towards the end, when you think he’d finally get along with Flyyn, he keeps the feud going. Obviously it’s a friendly dispute, and that’s why it’s so funny.
7. At the 7th place spot is Sven from Frozen. He is so funny. He is always annoyed by Olaf and he is a loyal friend to Kristoff. Plus, he tries his best to keep everyone safe. He also gets bonus points for getting his tongue stuck on Elsa’s ice castle’s ice staircase.
6. At the 6th place spot is Pascal from Rapunzel. He is so dramatic. He is always rolling his eyes, and looking disappointed in the decisions made by both Rapunzel (his best friend) and Flynn. He also has a tragic backstory of how he landed in the arms of Rapunzel. He also is forced to wear a dress at one point, which is hilarious.
5. In the 5th place spot is Olaf from Frozen. He too (much like Stitch) isn’t an animal. But, I don’t think there are many talking snowmen in filmography. He a very comical tagalong like character. He has been with Anna and Elsa since they were little, since they created them. He also teaches good lessons. He even says, “Some people are worth melting for.” He is also very theatrical, even having his own opera-like sing-song moment.
4. In the 4th place spot is Pumbaa and Timon from the Lion King. Now, they are two characters, but what is one without the other? Timon is the “smart” one, which is funny because they’re both not the sharpest tools in the shed. He kind of is the leader out of the two. Then there is Pumbaa, who is a fat, funny pig. He is thought to be the less smart one out of the two. But, I especially love how he leads himself with pride towards the end and forgets about what others think, he then also gains a bunch of courage against Scar and his gang of hyenas.
3. In the 3rd place spot is Donkey from Shrek. He is so charismatic and cunning. He may seem “dumb” but he is not. He is always making witty comments and lightening the mood. Donkey moves to the beat of his own drum, and he looks up to his best friend Shrek. Which is why I think he is an amazing character (besides his humor), because he is loyal and mistreated to the very person he gives all of his love too. Also, he is an amazing husband to his dragon wife, and together they have cute hybrid dragon-donkeys.
2. In the 2nd place spot is Hay Hay from Moana, and the reason he is so high up on the list is because he is dumb and cute. I’ll leave it at that.
1. And finally, in the 1st place spot is Mushu from Mulan. Mushu is so iconic. Not only is he funny, but he is also the weakest of the ancestors, and at the end when he proves himself to the rest, we all feel so proud of him. He literally guided a woman, this time, through war, where she eventually ended up winning it for her country of China. Plus, when he calls Mulan’s horse a cow, and names her Bessie, it makes me laugh.
That is my list of the top 10 best Disney animal sidekicks.
