Thanksgiving is a national holiday celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November each year. Thanksgiving is a time to give thanks and show gratitude toward the harvest, family, and blessings of the past year. As Thanksgiving approaches students across the school are getting ready for the food, family, and fun. Asking a couple of students the question, “What is your favorite part of Thanksgiving,” there were a variety of answers, the most common was the food and people.
After surveying a few classmates, over half said that their favorite parts involved food, and half said that it involved the family aspect– 71% of the small group of students surveyed said their favorite part was the food because it’s delicious.
“My favorite part of Thanksgiving is the food- especially mashed potatoes and gravy. I love this dish because it is so yummy,” explained senior Sydney Mineo.
Meanwhile, while most said they were having fun with family or enjoying eating, a couple said they enjoyed the activities they could do while on school break.
“Every Thanksgiving we go to my camp all weekend to hunt because we don’t have school, so that is my favorite part of Thanksgiving,” senior Brynely Watrous said.
Despite a mixed result, students agreed that Thanksgiving was about family quality time. It’s clear that Thanksgiving means something special to everyone, whether that means eating yummy food, spending time with family and friends, or participating in holiday traditions.
