AI has recently taken a drastic incline over the past couple of years. Do you think AI in schools is a helpful tool, or cheating?
AI stands for artificial intelligence, which refers to computer systems that perform tasks typically requiring human intelligence, such as reasoning, learning, and decision-making. AI has become a big part of education today.
Over recent years, students have been using tools like ChatGPT to help them on homework assignments, to study for tests, or to understand the more difficult topics. Some people see it as a helping tool, whereas others view it as cheating. I believe AI is a helpful tool in school, when it is used responsibly.
Using AI responsibly can be very beneficial to students. Assisting those is writing, explaining lessons and instantly providing feedback. AI has been created to be able to give a step-by-step answer to any asked question.
On the other hand, AI becomes cheating in school when the students start having it finish their entire test for them, or completing the front and back of an assignment. Copying full essays and homework assignments defeats the purpose of education, which is when AI becomes cheating.
Overall, AI is a tool; it all just depends on how it is used. When students use it wanting to learn and understand, it helps significantly, but when they use it to avoid learning, it becomes cheating. Schools and students must find a balance that supports learning, while also keeping it honest.
