In 2006 in Bowling Green, Kentucky, the best band of the century was formed. The band consisted of the front man Matt Shultz, his brother Brad Shultz as the lead guitarist, Daniel Tichenor on the bass, Jared Champion on the drums, and Lincoln Parish as the second guitarist. Lincoln left the band in 2012 and they have since added Mathew Minster on the keyboard and Nick Bockrath as the rhythm guitarist.

Cage got attention very early on when they released their self-titled album on June 23, 2008. It was a very different sounding album at the time and Matt’s raw vocals is what made the album what it was. Their next release was called “Thank You, Happy Birthday” which came out on June 11, 2011. This album has the most beautiful lyrics and angelic instrumentals. It is most definitely the boys’ best album and has absolutely no skips.

October 8, 2013, “Melophobia” was released. This is what really blew up the band with their hit songs “Cigarette Daydreams,” and “Come A Little Closer.” This album is what pushed them into being the best band of their time, due to the storytelling and emotions heard in each of the songs.

“Social Cues” was released on April 19, 2019, and had a completely new sound and vibe. This is exactly why Cage the Elephant is such an enthralling band, they have no limits and each album is extremely different from the last.

The most recent album came out on May 17, 2024, and was titled “Neon Pill.” Half of this album was written while Matt Shultz was in psychosis and the rest came after. His experience is what made this album so powerful, highlighting his struggles and even societal issues, which is something no other band can portray the way they did.

Cage the Elephant is most known for their stage presence, appearing in the title of many world renowned music critics articles. They have also been highlighted by “Rolling Stone” consistently throughout their career. There have been many instances where fans have seen Cage open for their favorite band, but then walked out with a new one. Matt Shultz’s authentic energy while performing is what always leaves the crowd in a choke hold.
