Khamari's 'To Dry a Tear' a collage of emotions

While “doomscrolling” Instagram late at night, I heard the voice of an angel behind a fitness influencer’s video.  I immediately Shazammed the song and  it brought me to the album “To Dry a Tear,” by Khamari. This angelic R&B/Soul album takes a dive into Khamari’s views on love and relationships.

The very passionate album opens with the track “I Love Lucy,” which explains the struggles of loving someone as a music artist, not being able to settle down.

Extending this theme, the next two tracks explain the struggle of miscommunication in a relationship and personal growth after.

The next three tracks emphasize the struggles of being alone, explaining how it can make you feel stuck in your own mind, making you feel suffocated in new relationships.

Track 7, “Close,” is a beautiful pause in the intense nature of the album. This track gives the listener a break to think about what is happening in the album and really process all the strong.

The album closes out with four tracks all about personal growth and intense tension between the longing for a relationship and the freedom of being content with what he has. Khamari does not give a direct resolution to the album, but it leaves the listener questioning how well they actually understand themselves and their relationships.

The beautiful vocals and connective instrumentals wrap this album into a collage of emotions that can seem overwhelming after the first listen. After re-listening, it seems to really connect with the listener, presenting very relatable emotions.

After the first listen, the album was a 3.5/5, but after multiple listens and a deeper understanding of my emotions in which I felt whilst listening to the art, it settled to a 4.5/5.
