During the week of May 19-23, Corry Area High School put together a Mental Health Awareness Spirit Week. Corry’s Safeline group came together to give students and staff a week to dress up and support Mental Health.
On Monday the theme was “Moody Monday.” Students and staff were supposed to dress up in the colors of their emotions. On Tuesday, the theme was “Team-Up Tuesday,” where the theme was favorite jersey or team shirt.
On Wednesday the theme was “Worthy Wednesday.” Participants were supposed to wear white to “white out” negative thoughts. On Thursday the theme was “Thankful Thursday.” Kids were supposed to write a thank you note to someone, and wear orange and black.
On Friday the theme was “Feel Good Friday.” Kids were supposed to wear green to symbolize new life, renewal, and growth. There was also a competition among students. In first period on Friday, every kid in high school was given one green necklace. The rules were, if you played rock-paper-scissors and won, you got to keep the opponent’s necklace. You could not deny a challenge. At the end of the school day, whoever had the most necklaces won a gift card tree, containing $200 dollars worth of gift cards. It was a very chaotic but fun Friday to support mental health awareness!
