I’ve been watching the NBA draft lottery for years now, and honestly, something about it just doesn’t sit right with me.
Every time a big market team or a team that lost a superstar needs a boost, they just happen to win the lottery. What are the odds? The Cavaliers lost LeBron and then somehow got the first pick right after. And then again, and again. It’s like the NBA is picking favorites and trying to make sure certain teams stay relevant. It’s not about luck; it feels like the league is planning it all to help their business.
Also, why is the actual lottery drawing not shown live? They say it’s done “fairly,” but it’s all behind closed doors with only a few people in the room. That just makes it look shady. If it’s really fair, why not just put it on TV for everyone to see?
And don’t forget about the old theory that the Knicks got the number one pick back in the eighties because the NBA wanted Patrick Ewing in New York. People still talk about the frozen envelope theory — and honestly, with how things go, it doesn’t sound that crazy anymore.
In the end, the draft lottery feels more like a show than a real random event. The NBA is a business, and sometimes it seems like they care more about money and ratings than fairness. I think they should just change the system or at least make it more transparent. Until then, I don’t trust it, and I bet a lot of other fans don’t either. It’s hard to believe in “luck” when the same type of teams keep getting lucky over and over again.
