With this year’s track season starting up, I thought it would be appropriate to get the opinions of the coaches and athletes along with their thoughts on the upcoming season.
Mr. Carey is the boys track head coach and when asked about the upcoming season he said, “Looking forward to an exciting season full of good performances and a lot of athletes are working hard for the upcoming season. I’m also excited to see how it turns out.”
Next for the track athletes Cole Halfast, who does the triple jump, long jump, 100m, 400m, and he said, “I’m excited we have some very athletic, promising teammates who we’re looking forward to bringing home some hardware.” He later said that hardware was slang for trophies/medals.
Tyson Alsdorf who runs the 400m, 800m, said he is, “optimistic about the upcoming season looking forward to hopefully making states.” Tyson also said, “I miss my good friend Weston because of his injury he will not be attending this upcoming season.”
Grady Mosher, who does shot put and discus said, “I am not looking forward to it because of my physical conditions.”
Connor Sterling who does the 100m, 200m, long jump, 4×4, and 4×1 said, “I believe it will be a good season [with] good teammates, and I hope I make nationals.”
Cooper Hodak who runs the 100m, and 4×100 relay told me that “I think the season will be interesting.”
Blake Cook does the 110mh, 300mh, and 4x400m relay said that there is “a lot of potential for [the] team– expect records to be broken.”
Mr. Fox, who is the head coach for the girls team, said, “Very talented group who are going to compete region and district. We sent seven girls to start last year. I believe we can send seven to 10 this year. Also I am very excited.” He also said, “We have a couple extra coaches, a very talented freshmen group, and the senior class is loaded. This will be a fun year, and we are very motivated to work hard.”
Laikynn Bayle runs the 800m, 400m, and 4×1 is “hoping to make the 4 x 8 team to go to states.”
Lauren Brundage does javelin and high jump and said, “I’m excited and looking forward to making friends within the upcoming season.”
Katrena Downey, who does long jump, high jump, and triple jump, said, “I’m excited about making district along with the new season.”
Emry Passenger, who does shot put and discus said, “I’m really excited and I hope I get a lot better than I was in middle school and hopefully get a new PR.”
