On March 14, Kent State played in the semi finals of the MAC championship. They played Miami (OH), and it was a close game, but they lost 72-64. They all thought that their season was over until they got asked to play in the NIT tournament. They got ready and traveled to Olean, NY, to play St. Bonaventure.
It was a back and forth game until it wasn’t, when Kent won 75-56. They advanced to the next round to face Stanford. They knew it was going to be a tough game, especially since they had to travel all the way to California. Stanford was expected to win, but that didn’t happen Sunday, March 23, when Kent won 77-75.
The leading scorer for Kent was Jalen Sullinger with 34 points against Stanford. Sullinger is averaging 15.8 points per game. Another notable player for Kent is Delrecco Gillespie with his ability of rebounding. He had 14 rebounds when they defeated Stanford. Kent is a very talented team with most of there starters being seniors. It’ll be a challenge for them next year when they lose all of their seniors.
Kent is ranked third in the MAC with a record of 24-11. On Wednesday, they played Loyola Chicago away. Kent lost this difficult matchup, 72-62.
