It was a warm, sunny summer day. I was on vacation in North Carolina with my family. We come here every year and stay at our beach house. The vacation was ten days, but we had already been here for four days. Today our plans were to stay on the beach pretty much all day. I was old enough to go back to the beach house when I wanted, as it was only a five minute walk from the beach. It was two o’clock and we had been on the beach since around ten, so I asked my parents if I could go back to the beach house for a second. Since I wanted to grab a few things to bring back to the beach. My mom said sure and also asked if I could grab a few things while I was over there.
I had begun to walk off of the beach and back to the beach house the same way I had for the past four days and the past seventeen years of my life. The sun was beating down on me as I walked across the beach. I checked my phone since I hadn’t been on it all day and kept walking. However, clouds began to appear covering the sun. They were not storm or rain clouds but they provided a nice breeze.
Three minutes later I looked up from my phone done from checking my notifications. Only to notice I didn’t recognize where I was. I thought how weird that was because I had been about everywhere from my many years of coming here. I always would go on walks everywhere, but I have any idea where I was. I went to type in the address of the house but the map on my phone wouldn’t work. I continued to wonder back towards where I came from in hopes that maybe I would make it to an area that I recognized.
Suddenly it began to pour, the clouds which I believed were harmless were storm clouds. I frantically searched for somewhere to stay until the rain cleared up. As I stood under an overhang of a building I tried calling my mom. But I got no answer as I expected. It had been ten minutes when the rain finally cleared up.
I was walking and I finally knew where I was! I got ahead of myself and tripped over a rock. I fell and scraped up my knees. They began to bleed and I tried to get home so I could clean them up before it got everywhere. I finally made it to my house!
I grabbed the few things I needed and my mom needed. The extra sunscreen, a hat, some fruit, another book, and my headphones. I cleaned up my scraped knees since I didn’t want to get blood everywhere. I was finally on my way back to the beach after all that time. I was walking on the beach and the sun was shining bright like it was that morning. I met up with my family and gave my mom all of the stuff. “What happened, you were gone for an hour? And you forgot to grab the water bottles I asked you to get. Would you mind going back and getting them, please?” My mom asked.
Are you kidding me, I thought in my head, I just want to relax after everything. But I just nodded and smiled. I was hoping that eventually I would be able to just sit on the beach and read my book. I started walking back to the beach house hoping that the walk would go way better this time than the last time.
