Something I’ve noticed recently is that, while we’re traversing the world and moving along in life, it gets really easy to expect the world to change around you and work in your favor. You expect everything to just sort of fall into our laps, and it just doesn’t work like that. Nothing changes if you don’t. Nothing changes if nothing changes.
What exactly does that mean? We have to be the one to go on our own experience. You are going on your own journey. You don’t harvest the day you plant the seed, but if you don’t plant anything you never harvest. Think of it this way: you are the one making the change to the world. That is the best way to put it.
Imagine you’re a little kid playing with your sibling and you want to make a fort on a riverbend behind your backyard. It’s an odd example, I know, but just hear me out. You go out and ask your mom for a shovel, and you start digging around this river. This naturally causes the flow of water to be disrupted, causing increased erosion and sediment deposition. It entirely alters the river’s course over time. That is a major change to the river despite something small.
Here’s a simpler example: a wildfire. Say a couple is going camping and they’re inexperienced. They’re there for two days then they leave and they forget to put out the fire before they leave. Then they start a forest fire in the woods. The entire forest burns down and is left to be completely desolate. However, after some time, the forest grows back and is more dense and green than ever before.
What is the commonality between these two examples though? Change. The kids altered the river bend and the river completely changed direction. The forest burned down and it regrew to be something completely different. Change happened because change happened.
In the case of the fire, the change caused them to be something greater and better than they ever would have been. So for you, the reader, do not get complacent with who you are right now. Seek change. Wanting something to change in you internally will change you externally. Who you are is not a stagnant thing, despite me saying humans are stagnant earlier. You can change any time you want to, but it is the conscious intention and choosing to get better. The world doesn’t happen to you, you happen to the world. In that way, our growth and development happens naturally. Recognize and keep in mind that we are supposed to be the life and experience it.
How do you put it together? I’d say to take a step back from your mind. Start traversing the world in a way that is befitting of you and makes you comfortable. Do everything to the best of your ability with what you can and what you have and understand the subtle implications of your actions.
Attack the world. All I can say is to not let the world come to you. If you want something in yourself to change and become better, go do something about it. That’s the whole point. If you aren’t happy about something, do something about it. Or else nothing will change.
