The school-wide morning announcements broadcast has long been a staple of our school, delivering updates, entertainment, and a sense of connection. Recently, a survey was conducted to gather feedback from staff about what they would like to see more of on the broadcast. The results revealed a mix of creativity, humor, and a desire for meaningful content. Here’s what the staff had to say:
More Fun and Entertainment
Several staff members expressed a desire for the announcements to lean into humor and creativity. Mr. Adamski suggested “more shenanigans,” hinting at a playful approach to engaging students and staff. Similarly, Ms. Sisson and Mrs. Toplovich asked for “movie skits,” which could add a cinematic flair to the broadcast. Angle Straub took this a step further by proposing “more story-driven short films,” opening up opportunities for students to craft narratives and showcase their storytelling skills.
Beloved Segments and New Ideas
Some staff members suggested revisiting or refining popular segments. Mrs. Barnett praised “the bloopers” but noted that they “should be shorter,” a suggestion that could make these moments punchier and more engaging. Mr. Brumagin fondly recalled the “Joke of the Day,” requesting its return, while Mr. Coates recommended incorporating “weather reports,” a practical addition for students planning their day.
Spotlighting Students and Teachers
Building community spirit was a recurring theme. Mr. Brewer and Mr. Coates both suggested “student shout-outs or teacher shout-outs,” a great way to recognize achievements and foster positivity. Mrs. Carrey proposed “more student interviews and post-event overviews,” which could highlight student voices and celebrate the outcomes of school activities.
Professionalism and Updates
While many suggestions leaned into fun and creativity, others emphasized the importance of maintaining professionalism and delivering useful information. Mrs. Thier called for “inventive professionalism,” a reminder to balance entertainment with purposeful content. Mr. Kuzma agreed, simply asking for “updates,” ensuring the announcements remain informative. Mr. Silka proposed “live news,” which could bring a dynamic and timely element to the broadcast.
Practical Additions
A few staff members suggested incorporating practical and helpful features. Mr. Simonsen recommended “lost and found sessions or results of events,” which could serve as a useful service for the school community.
What Needs Less Attention
Not all feedback was about adding new features. Mr. King suggested that the broadcast “needs less Conner Vanco,” perhaps a lighthearted call to rethink the airtime distribution or give other contributors a chance to shine.
