Paula Marie Carey, or as she would say “your favorite biology teacher,” was born August 2, 1982. She was born in Denver, Colorado, but she also lived in New Jersey, and a cow town in New York. She attended Sherman Central School, where she was one of the 34 graduating seniors.
Carey received her undergraduate degree from Allegheny College in Meadville, PA. She got her Master’s Degree from Edinboro University in Edinboro, PA. She got into the job she did because she wanted to share her love for science and getting the summers off.
Mrs. Carey has three children. Her oldest child, Owen, is 23, and his wife, Becca is also 23. Her middle child, Liv, is 14 and in 8th grade. Her youngest daughter, Celia, is eight and in 3rd grade.
Some of Mrs. Carey’s hobbies include professional chauffeur and semi-pro snack supplier for her budding gymnasts and volleyball player. In the future (when her children have grown) she plans on taking up something equally as exciting like competitive origami, or extreme birdhouse decorating.
If she could travel anywhere she would pick the Galapagos Islands, so she can say “Darwin and I stood here.” Her favorite movie is “Dirty Dancing.” Her favorite color is orange, and her favorite emotion is the feeling you get when she’s walking out to her car after an early dismissal before a long break. An upcoming vacation she has is wanting to take her younger children to Alaska this summer to visit her best friend. She said that she has been there before, but she really wants to share it with them.
She would say that her favorite quote is “Life finds a way.” – Dr. Ian Malcolm, “Jurassic Park.” When asked if she played any sports she asked, “Does unjamming the copier in the faculty room count?”
Her biggest pet peeve is when students talk down on themselves or others. Some advice she would give to her readers is, “Every day, I tell my students ‘Be good!’–and I mean it. Be kind, make good choices, and never lose the little quirks that make you, you.”
