Last Friday night Corry Beavers basketball team went head to head against the Union City Bears for the home opener.
The J.V. started at 6 p.m. and they got their first win of the season with the ending score being 56-34. Right after the J.V. game the varsity game kicked off at 7:15 p.m. reading the beat the bears.
The starting line ups for the bears was senior guard #2 Trevin Capela, senior guard #22 Trent Parkhurst, senior center #40 Daniel McNulty, junior guard #1 Elijah Troyer, junior guard #12 Mason Wienczkowski.
The starting lineup for the beavers was junior guard #1 Keaton Frisina, junior forward #11 Landon Deane, junior guard #2 Kamdyn Moon, senior center #30 Cameron Ricketts and senior guard #3 Karson Chamberlin.
Bears #2 Capela won the top off against beavers #11 Deane. The bears came out scoring with a lay up for Troyer making the score 2-0 bears leading. Moon struck back with a three pointer causing the Beavers to lead 3-2. By half time the beavers had a comfortable lead of 39-17 up against the bears. Beavers kept up the speed keeping a large lead against the bears throughout the rest of the second half of the game. The beavers had a solid defense against the bears causing very little scoring for the bears, but the beavers had a good scoring night themselves. The ending score was 77-50 with the beavers taking their first of the season.
The Bears stats on the night were Capela with 13 points, Troyer with 11 points, McNulty with eight points, Jackson Kibbe had six, Wienczkowski with five, four from Parkhurst and Blaker Turner had three. Beavers were led by Deane with 33 points, Moon had 12 points, from Chamberlin 10 points, six points from Frisina, Ricketts had five, Landon Atha and Zach Turben had four and to Gavin Kent had three points.
DEEJ Experience Broadcasting offensive player of the game went to Chamberlin for his assists on the night, the defensive player and player of the game went to Deane for team leading scoring of 33 points.
The boy’s next game will be on Friday the 13, away against the Clymer Pirates.
