Friday November 22, 2024 11:30 A.M. EST, Kendrick Lamar posted a video on YouTube titled “GNX,” a video of Kendrick in a room with cars, with music playing in the background. Thirty minutes later Lamar unexpectedly released an album with the same name as the video. This album, only having a 30 minute roll out, is a beautifully produced album, and Lamar’s sixth studio album, most likely released for the performance he is scheduled for at Super Bowl LIX.
The 12-track, LA-produced album, is an explosive record having multiple features from hidden artists at this current moment. Every track on “GNX” gives the listener a different feel, but still sticks to that original LA rap feel. Kendrick recognizes the Hispanic culture of LA, using vocals of Deyra Barrera to open the album, and continuing throughout multiple songs in the album. Kendrick talks about his influence on rap and his come up in the LA rap game throughout the album, emphasizing his come up on the track “The Heart pt. 6.”
Listeners can really feel the heart put into this album, with Kendrick really wanting to make an album on LA culture in preparation for Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans. The ups and downs of this album are what is usually expected out of an album by Lamar, but there is a heavy emphasis on the more hard-hitting, dance type songs. This album at face value is amazing, and once it gets settled in, people all over the world will really appreciate it.
