On February 31, 1979, a funny, kind-hearted person named Mr. Buona was given to the world. Buona grew up in Erie, PA, along with his seven siblings, who he cares very much about. Throughout the course of his student life, Buona attended the Harborcreek schools in Harborcreek, PA. During his college years, he went to Edinboro University to pursue his career and passion in education, teaching students ranging from 6th to 8th grades.
When asked what his favorite class to teach is, he explained that he enjoys teaching his favorite and only class, 6th Grade World Geography. This is mainly because, “The kids care about school.” He went on to explain that he got his job when one of his coworkers, Mr. Coates, knew of someone who was resigning from their previous position, which was a great opportunity for Buona to fill in for them.
If Mr. Buona could travel anywhere in the world, he would choose Ireland, not only because his family is Irish, but also because “I like the cold.” All I can say is, me too Mr. Buona, me too. Speaking of vacations, I asked him what his plans for Thanksgiving break are, which he explained, hanging out with his son and family, of course. If Mr. Buona had to describe his dream vacation, he would have to say, “Hanging out with my wife and kids.” In Mr. Buona’s terms, a “perfect date” consists of seeing a movie while eating Mexican food.
What makes Mr. Buona even more unique and amazing is his love for his favorite song, “Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da” by The Beatles. When I asked Mr. Buona what his favorite color was, he replied with, “orange.” Mr. Buona also said that if he had to choose any of his favorite emotions, he would have to choose hunger, especially when it comes to his favorite food, pizza. This is because, “I eat it a lot.”
Ultimately, some of Mr. Buona’s favorite things to do are reading about baseball, because he enjoys sports. In fact, while Mr. Buona was in middle and high school, he played baseball. He also played football in the linebacker and offense positions. He also enjoys watching movies, “Signs” being one of his favorites. However, he particularly enjoys horror movies. To top it all off, his favorite quote is, “You must have the opportunity to fail, to succeed.”
When Mr. Buona was asked what animal he would best compare his personality to, he quickly responded with “a cat.” As a person who knows Mr. Buona well, I definitely agree, mainly because of his curiosity, intelligence, and friendliness towards people, especially his students.
To top off this interview, Mr. Buona’s biggest pet peeve is, “Kids not taking advantage of the greatness America offers.”
Mr. Buona is an amazing teacher, and if you don’t get the chance to experience his class, you are definitely missing out. He is very fun and easy to get along with, and definitely makes his classes way better.
Mr. Buona has one thing he would like to say to his readers. Always remember, “There’s only one person you can depend on your whole life: yourself. So make sure you love the person you are.”
Thank you Mr. Buona for all these inspiring and wise words.
