The Lady Beavers welcomed the Neshannock Lancers to their home court for the first round of PIAA State Playoffs on Tuesday, November 5.
The Lancers started off strong as they scored the first three points of the first set, yet the Beavers battled and kept the score close. The score was 11-10 when Senior Halle Albers went to the service line. Albers helped Corry to get eight consecutive points, along with three kills by Sophomore Grace Allen, Senior Payton McCray had a setter dump, and Senior Aubrey Chase with a kill. That amazing run allowed the Beavers to win the first set, the final score being 25-14.
The second set also started out in favor of the Lancers, as Neshannock was able to gain the lead early on. The score was 11-10, the Beavers were battling to keep up but were unable as the Lancers continued to climb the ladder. The score was 15-11 when the Beavers took their first time out. The set resumed and Corry was ready to make a comeback with Seniors Allison Sawyer and Sadye Dyne kills bringing the Beavers back to the lead. The set was closed with an Albers kill, another set win the Beavers (25-21).
The third set was by far the most intense. The Beavers and Lakers going point for point, first the score was tied at 11-11 and then continued until 15-15. Senior Aubrey Chase was ready to gain the lead for the Beavers as she had a powerful kill, finally bringing Corry into the lead. Chase’s kill began a run for the Beavers as they only let Neshannock get a few points. Senior Emmalee Carr and Sophomore Grace Allen had two consecutive kills that allowed the Beavers to get a four point lead (22-18). The Lancers were unable to get another point as the Lady Beavers continued to rally, an ace by Senior Makenna Moore and another Chase kill brought Corry to set point. The tensions were high as the anticipation was building, when Sophomore Haley Mumau ended the night with a truly impressive setter dump right to the middle of the Lancers court. Allowing the Corry Beavers to take home the win and continue their season as they go into the second round of State Playoffs.
