From the first week of launch of OpenAI’s ChatGPT, to where we now have text-to-video that can visualize anything you type in. From fixed 30b AI models to OpenAI o1 that can think and reason while still not learning anything new, yet somehow also miles better than what was thought to be “standard” a week prior. The world of AI just keeps advancing, to the point where humans can barely distinguish between AI writing from human writing. The rapid pace of advancements in artificial intelligence has left many in awe, and the latest developments are no exception. In just a short span of time, we’ve witnessed the emergence of groundbreaking technologies that are redefining the boundaries of what’s possible.
You can probably guess why that was italicized: that was Meta AI’s new model Llama 3.1 talking, and it is really good at text generation.
The evolution of AI capabilities brings both opportunities and responsibilities. While these tools offer unimaginable assistance, their proper use requires consideration. Instead of using AI to generate entire books or essays – which could border on plagiarism – consider using it as a research assistant and idea catalyst.
For example, when studying literature, AI can help compare themes, writing styles, and character development across different works. Ask it to analyze the parallels between Shakespeare’s “King Lear” and “Oedipus Rex,” rather than having it write your comparative essay. Use it to generate study questions that challenge your understanding, not to provide ready-made answers.
People have a hard time not using AI for everything, but when you have such a powerful tool, why not use it and have you sit back and watch it do your work for you? Well, you wouldn’t be learning anything. Making AI take over your life, suppressing creativity and making you, essentially, dumber.
So this is a warning, and hopefully a wake up call to some, more and more people start using AI for everything, there will be no human media left, all just recirculated generated garbage for everyone to consume. Use it wisely
