This month is National Bullying Awareness Month, and Corry High School takes this very seriously. Over 13 million kids are bullied every year. One in every four students will be bullied, and one in every three will be cyber bullied.
Bullying has to stop, and our school is doing all that it can to spread awareness of this. Bullying cannot be taken lightly. It is a huge cause of depression, anxiety, and even suicide in students. Bullying will never be okay, and our school wants to make sure that is clear.
Bullying is a very sensitive subject for many, but it is important to discuss. Kids need to know what bullying is and what it does to the victims. Now, there is a difference when it comes to bullying and people just being rude. If someone calls you a mean name at the lunch table, it’s not bullying. Of course, that is still not okay, however, it is not bullying. It will only become bullying when that person keeps calling you that name repetitively. There are other things that are considered bullying such as threatening people, telling a person to kill themselves, or even becoming violent with a person. Here at our school, it is important to us that if you see any of these things occurring, whether it is happening to you, a friend, or any other fellow student, report it to a trusted adult.
So, what is our school doing to spread awareness? Our school has put up posters around the building, as well as a huge poster in the cafeteria where students may sign their names to show their support for National Bullying Awareness Month. Our school wants to make it clear that bully victims are not alone, and that they should come and talk to someone if they are being bullied. Bullying here will not be tolerated and if any student here is caught bullying another, there will be repercussions.
It is never okay to make people feel like they are nothing. It is never okay to make them feel like they will never amount to anything. So our school wants to show its awareness and wants kids to know that they aren’t alone, and that there are many people out there who are willing to talk to them.
