My powderpuff experience

After remembering how much fun I had at the powderpuff game last year, I decided to sign up again. However, this year the game was open to all high school students and not just the football players and cheerleaders. I was excited to hear this because I knew it would make for a fun and interesting game. To explain, powderpuff games are when the football players and cheerleaders usually switch roles and the boys are the cheerleaders and the girls are the players.

At the first practice we were assigned a team and coaches. This year the freshman and sophomores are a team and the juniors and seniors are on the other team. We had two official practices to figure out positions and plays. Both days we ended in a scrimmage between the teams. The first day the seniors and juniors won, but the second day the freshman and sophomores (my team) won.

After the official practices, both teams decided to have an extra practice or two. I wasn’t able to make it to my teams extra practice, so I don’t know how it went. I assume it went very well because once Game Day came around our team was feeling focused and ready. Once everyone got there, we all got our t-shirt jerseys and we added a bunch of pink accessories to look tough and intimidating. After getting all decked out we started heading to the field to practice. I did feel a little behind from missing the practice, but I quickly got caught up.

The game began and we got the kick return. I came in as starting running back and on our very first play I forgot that it was supposed to be a hand off to me and I ran the other way, allowing the other team to get a touchdown (oopsie). On that touchdown they also got the extra point. That kind of made me question myself for a bit, but I just needed to get my head in the game. Our whole team came in clutch and we scored a touchdown but missed the extra point.

During the second quarter I stayed playing the same position and we got another touchdown, but again, missed the extra point. By the end of the quarter they were trying to get everyone in, so I sat out and watched for a while. We got some more touchdowns and so did our opponents.

At the fourth quarter we were only one touchdown ahead and the other team was close to the end zone about to make a touchdown. Our team was very nervous, considering the lack of time left. The opposing team did end up getting a touchdown, but they missed the extra point. This tied up the game, making it 26-26.

It was straight down to the wire, when all of a sudden, Madi Leofski got a hold of the ball and ran it all the way to the end zone from across the whole field. We all were so happy. This ended the game at 32-26. Our whole team was so excited and proud. After the game we all celebrated on the field and got a picture together as the 2024 powderpuff winners.
