On November 11 from 9 a.m. until 10 a.m. a Corry American History Class Veterans Day Breakfast will be happening in the Corry Area High school cafeteria. This event has been put together by your fellow classmates in the honor history class and the social studies program. All those invited are veterans who served in any of the branches of the military. Many in attendance will be family members of the school’s students, but anyone who is a veteran is most welcome.
This Veterans breakfast has been put on for many years at Corry. Throughout the years it’s looked different from time to time. During Covid it was a car parade, other times there were assemblies and veterans panels. The last few years it’s been a meet and greet with doughnuts. This year the social studies department and the students wanted to do something a little bit bigger.
The breakfast includes various breakfast foods such as eggs, sausage, pastries, fresh fruit and coffee. The meals will be served by Corry high honors American history students. Special decorations and individual thank you cards are also be prepared by the students. Along with the other festivities the Corry band will be there to play some tunes.
From one of the leaders of this breakfast, Michael Woods states, “We’ve been pushing the kids to go out and reach out to their neighbors and family who served and invite them out to this event. It’s a special time to see the next generation joining with the generations that have come before and,” Woods continued. “I think the students develop a deep appreciation for what it is to serve in the greatest country in the world. I hope to see a lot of Veterans there. They can just show up or they can call the school to let us know they are coming. Veterans can bring a guest as well.”
