One of the biggest things I dread doing is saying goodbye to a weekend and starting another week. I think most will agree when I say the weekends feel way too short. Two days just simply isn’t enough. Coming home from a long five day week at school wanting to relax while also trying to figure out plans with friends is difficult to do in the span of a couple days. However, whenever we have the luxury of having a three day weekend, it feels like the best weekend ever.
Another thing that comes with a three-day weekend is a four-day school week. I think this would be much better than the original five-day week. For many, school is so draining and people look forward to the weekend all week long. If we had three-day weekends I think many would find more time for themselves and be happier overall.
Studies show that with a three-day weekend students are less stressed and more energized. Long weekends feel like a breath of fresh air. A handful of states have already made the switch, and I envy them. With a longer weekend I feel like I would actually have an ample amount of time to get recharged for the busy week ahead. As high school students we have a lot on our plates. Balancing homework and sports while also trying to have enough time for yourself to make sure you’re in a good space mentally is a challenging thing to do. I think a longer weekend would make this process a bit easier.
Some would argue that weekends are boring and they wouldn’t want that much time off because they’d have nothing to do. This is understandable, however, it is important to learn to enjoy your own company. A three-day weekend gives students just the right amount of time to hang out with friends and also just be alone and relax, which is just as important as socializing with friends. To conclude, I think longer weekends would be better for students due to all the benefits they would provide.
