Every year me and my family go on a family vacation around the end of the summer (mid August). This year we decided to go to Carolina Beach in North Carolina, the only thing that we didn’t plan for was to be stuck inside most of the time due to the hurricane. We were about 200 feet off the ocean, so we got all the heavy rain and all that, which didn’t make it very fun because my grandma sat inside and complained about how we were stuck inside. We had one day where it was really sunny, so me and my mom decided to go down to the beach. It was really windy and sand was everywhere; the sand felt like needles because of how hard the wind was blowing. So we decided to go up to the pool to cool off.
While we were on the way to the pool we sat our stuff down and my phone and anklet fell off the railing into the sand, so I had to somehow get over the railing to get both of them. After we got everything figured out we went to the pool and before we got in we rinsed ourselves off in the rinsing area they had outside the pool. When we were done we got into the pool, which was freezing cold, and we were swimming and relaxed. I have medication I have to take every day (due to being prone to migraines) and it makes me burn easier than I did before I started it. When we were done swimming my mom and I decided to get out and sun bathe, which probably was not the best idea because we forgot to buy and bring sunscreen before we left the house and the place that we were staying at.
So we stayed out in the sun for about two to three hours, occasionally flipping over. Since my medication made me more burnable when I got inside and got out of my shower, I was lobster red and it hurt to stretch any way and it even hurt to just walk or sit down because the back of my legs were so burnt. So, that night when we went out was not very fun and we were all very tired because we had gotten burnt (besides for my grandma, of course) and one of the stores we went into had sunscreen and aloe in it, and I had asked my mom to grab some because the burn from getting burnt was really starting to hurt at this point. Then we went and ate some pizza that kind of tasted like cardboard and a Sprite that was not very cold. We went home about an hour later and my grandma wanted to go to the boardwalk and we all kind of complained about it because we were all burnt, and I was burnt the most.
The next day, we ended up leaving the condo and went to Wilmington, which was about an hour away from where we were staying. I had to carry an umbrella the whole day because the sun was burning my skin more throughout the day even though I was wearing sunscreen. We went and got food after we had walked around for a bit, which was hard because all the places we looked at were either bars or a coffee shop. After we ate, we had scheduled a “Ghost Tour” around Wilmington where we had a lady showing us different haunted areas in the town and explained what had happened to the people and why they still stuck around the area where they died.
The next morning, we packed up all of our stuff and left to start what should have been a 12-hour trip, but it turned into a 16-hour trip because our GPS was not taking us the right route and we had to call my step-dad for help multiple times because he is pretty much a human GPS. We got home around two a.m. and had to unload the car. After we unloaded the car we all went to bed and my grandma drove home.
