My top 10 horror characters

My top 10 horror characters

Horror is one of the most favorable movie genres in existence. Now what makes these movies so great other than the clueless side characters or the creepy aspect of location? Well that would of course be the main villains known as horror characters, which have been around for at least 134 years and have evolved to the most notorious killers and creatures. Now out of the hundreds of characters, I had to limit myself to my top 10, so this is who my top 10 favorites are…

  1. The Joker

Gotham’s notorious green-haired clown has made his way on this list at number 10. The Joker (mainly Heath Ledger’s Joker) has created some of the best horrific scenes in the “Dark Knight” series. Ledger’s version of the Joker is a hauntingly, funny clown that terrorizes his victims and puts fear in them before potentially killing them. I put the Joker at number 10 because some wouldn’t technically consider him a horror character, but he still is one of my favorites.

  1. Fleegle, Snorky, Drooper, and Bingo (The Banana Splits Movie)

If you have never seen the “Banana Splits Movie,” I would definitely recommend it. The movie is about four animatronics that start to terrorize VIP guests at one of their shows. I think the best horror movies are ones with non-human characters. Out of the four animatronics, my favorite would probably have to be Bingo, a giant orange gorilla. I put this band at number nine because it’s basically a rip-off of “FNAF,” but still is a good group of characters.

      8. Hannibal Lecter

Any movie involved with a serial killer has always fascinated me. The eerie vibes and suspense within each horror movie is just a fun experience. Hannibal helps the FBI to find other serial killers. I placed Hannibal at number 8 because he is basically just a serial killer who almost turns good and there are better characters in horror.

  1. Chucky

“Here’s Chucky,” in number seven. Chucky is a possessed doll of a murderer named Charles Lee Ray, who transfers his soul to the doll after his death in the iconic “Child’s Play” movie franchise. Chucky even kills and transfers an ex-girlfriend to another doll (Named Tiffany), together looking for an amulet to turn them both back to human. I placed Chucky/Tiffany at number 7 because I’m not a complete fan of dolls, but Chucky is one I wanted to include on this list.

      6. Pennywise

“You’ll float too!” into number six. Pennywise, the notorious dancing clown, is probably the scariest clown in existence, terrorizing the children of Derry in the movies “IT” and “IT 2”, by using their own fears against them. Pennywise is one of the deadliest horror characters, ranking kill after kill, though not all are seen in the movies, based on Stephen King’s original book.

  1. Michael Myers

Considered to be the “Horror Face” of Halloween, Michael Myers is the first horror character you’ll probably think of when asked about horror characters. Michael is most known for his feature in the movie franchise “Halloween,” wielding his knife and killing teenagers in his hometown. Michael is one of my favorite characters, but for this list I didn’t want to go with all the basics.

  1. Predator

Screeching his way into number four is The Predator, a humanoid-alien from the far reaches of outer space, equipped with advanced technology. Predator’s overall look is scary enough, so he is one of my favorites because sci-fi-vibes mixed with horror I think are the best kind of characters/movies to make, and the creators of Predator did exactly that.

       3. Slappy the Dummy

Karru Marri Odonna Loma Molonu Karrano,” come to life Slappy, take your place in slot number three. Slappy the Dummy has been a legendary character in the “Goosebumps” series for decades and has been one of my favorite characters for the longest time. Even though Slappy has only terrorized his victims and no deaths are involved, he has still been one of the best characters around.

       2. Sam (From “Trick ‘R Treat”)

Sam is a demonic being that appears once a year, on Halloween, to enforce the rules of this holiday, making sure people are handing out candy, wearing a costume, and not blowing out a Jack o’ lantern before midnight. Sam uses many gruesome forms of revenge, as shown in the scenes of the movie.

  1. Ghostface

“What’s your favorite scary movie?” If you’ve ever watched this series you’ve probably heard this famous line from Ghostface. Ghostface I wouldn’t consider as the “mascot” of Halloween, but he has definitely ranked himself up in popularity. Ghostface has been my number one favorite horror character for years, even though his design is a bit bland, and more could be put into it, I still believe he has set the stage for the “Scream” movies.

With this Top 10, I didn’t want to completely go with the basics like Jason Voorhees or Freddy Kreuger. Everyone’s list is going to be different, but all in all, it’s about the thought put into each rank. I would like to thank all who took their time to read this.
