To start this off, I wanted to write and talk about the top 10 scary movies where I think they are scariest to least scariest. Choosing these movies was not that hard since I am in love with Halloween and I usually watch scary movies around this time just to get warmed up for the season. Jump scares are what most excite and what actually scare me, but if I know what is going happen, then I will not be scared. This is how I judge movies: whether the acting is good or not and if the jump scares are on point out of nowhere. I am most happy about everyone else’s reaction instead of mine because my family hates horror movies, but I have no problem, so if we are to watch one together I sit in the middle of the chaos. As a heads up, I would like readers to know to watch this kind of content only with parental permission with viewer discretion advised. I do not recommend this to younger ages by themselves. Some content may be rated R.
Movie 10: “Goosebumps “
I chose this movie to be my last option because this movie is very cute with not a lot of jump scares, which I love. I also watch this almost every Halloween because it reminds me of costumes and adventure all at the same time. A teenager teams up with the daughter of young-adult horror author R.L. Stine after the writer’s imaginary demons are set free in the town of Madison, Delaware.
Movie 9: “The Conjuring” Series
I chose this movie to be second because not only does it have one movie, it has multiple. This movie is based on a true story that contains a family with a mother, a father, and a couple of children. This movie has severely creepy jump scares and a girl who plays tricks on everyone.
Movie 8: “Lights Out “
I chose this movie because I used to be afraid of the dark, which is limited as of now. I rarely get scared, but I am more likely to speed walk in the dark or just always have a light on me. This movie is about a woman who only shows up only when someone flickers the lights off. When a character has an uglier face the more chances I will get disgusted rather than scared. The main thing that scares me is that in one scene she kept flickering the light on and off, which made the woman get closer and closer.
Movie 7: “Smile”
I chose this movie because it was very disturbing. I watched it once and some parts made me uncomfortable to watch. I think it was a very good movie, and it’s definitely worth watching.
Movie 6: “Train To Busan”
I chose this movie because the special effects were amazing. The movie was very emotional. It has parts that are scary, but overall I wouldn’t say it is super scary. I put it up this high because, even though it isn’t that scary, it is a phenomenal movie.
Movie 5: “Saw” (Franchise)
I chose this movie because the whole franchise is pretty good. I wouldn’t say the movies are scary, they’re more disturbing. Some scenes can be graphic, but overall I wouldn’t say the whole franchise is super scary.
Movie 4: “Ouija”
I chose this movie because this is quite a jump scare as the little girl is possessed and walks on walls, stating she is okay and can talk to the dead, but little did I know what was to come. In “Ouija,” a group of friends must confront their most terrifying fears when they awaken the dark powers of an ancient spirit board.
Movie 3: “Scream” (Franchise)
I chose this movie because they aren’t really that scary. They’re pretty predictable on who the killer is. All of the movies are pretty good, but they just aren’t as scary as they could be. I think that they could do better at making them less predictable.
Movie 2: “It”
I chose this movie because I have seen this movie a number of times and I will say I got spooked the first time, but now it is like a piece of cake. The monster is the evil clown Pennywise who can shapeshift into the thing you are most afraid of. The kids, also known as the Losers Club, decide to fight and kill It. I find it so amusing because I find it funny and not scary anymore.
Movie 1: “Exorcist”
The exorcist movie is about a girl getting possessed by a certain demon that makes the girl not think clearly and makes her say things that when she is found by her mother she can tell that she is not okay. Later on she then receives an exorcism. I chose this to be first because the actor did a fabulous job that I believed was real.
