Mrs. Vella is the new Corry High assistant principal. She grew up in the town of McKean, PA, and attended Mercyhurst Prep, and her favorite class was art history. She used to row, swim, and golf. She still enjoys playing a game of golf once and a while.

Growing up, Vella wanted to be a marine biologist, and later decided on teaching. Her very first job was working at an Italian food restaurant, where she did just about every job there is to do at a restaurant like that. After graduating, Mrs. Vella decided to enroll in Edinboro University. Her greatest inspiration is her dad.

Mrs. Vella’s favorite movie is “Guardians of the Galaxy, vol. 2.” However, the last movie she watched in theaters is “Deadpool & Wolverine.” She really likes spicy food. In fact, right after finding out she got the job, she celebrated by ordering her favorite food, Thai.

If Mrs. Vella were to assign a character to herself based on personality, she would say she is Rocket, from “Guardians of the Galaxy.” She would also match her personality to a Malinois dog, “because they’re fierce but loyal.” Mrs. Vella has two dogs, one Chocolate Lab and one Labradane.  Her favorite quotation is, “Mindset is everything.” Some of her interests and hobbies include painting and skeet shooting. Her top three Disney movies are: “Aladdin”, “The Little Mermaid”, and “The Lion King.” Vella’s favorite vacation she’s ever been on is Dewey Beach, Delaware. Her biggest pet peeve is circle talking, which is when you’re having a conversation with someone and they keep going back to the same topic.

The moment Mrs. Vella became the person she is today was when she was student teaching and last minute the teacher didn’t show up, so she had to find her teaching style and what worked. The day that her third grade teacher showed the students how eggs hatched was the day that Mrs. Vella knew she wanted to be a teacher. If she could do any job in the world other than her own, she would still love to be a marine biologist. One of Mrs. Vella’s favorite memories is deep sea tuna fishing.

Mrs. Vella’s idea of a perfect day is no school, no Wi-Fi, and to be with her family in nature. In fact, on her days off, she likes to take her ten-month-old daughter, Camilla, to fish stores because it’s like a free aquarium, and her daughter loves it. Her dream vacation would be on a beach or in the woods with no Wi-Fi. Vella’s personal plan for this year is to have a big party for her daughter’s first birthday, and professionally, she is excited to get to know all the students and faculty members. She is also very excited for homecoming and prom because she used to work at a younger school, where they don’t have fun dances like that.

A piece of advice that Mrs. Vella would like to give her readers is to, “Strive for your dreams even if people tell you you can’t.”
