It seems every year a couple weeks before the musical the cast is also scrambling to find people to come on stage with us and be stage crew. This year though we had a great turn out for people volunteering to be behind the scenes.
Students ranging from 7-12th grade gave up their first week of May to spend their time with us after school for five long hours. Striking sets, pulling curtains left and right, and lightning-fast costume changes are some of the many jobs stage crew perform. I wanted to shout out some of the students who are doing a tremendous job jumping in blind to theater.
This year seniors Emma Smith and Kyla Frisina are the new faces trying out theater for one last show or just the beginning. Here are some of their thoughts on being challenged with “Beauty and the Beast”…
Emma said that “Beauty and the Beast” was the perfect first show. Although still stressful, it was better to do this show compared to previous shows because there weren’t any intense set changes other than quick curtain switches.
Kyla explained it was very stressful the first day because there was no direction or really any guidance. But afterwards it went by very smoothly and it was very fun. She said it was eye opening to see what it takes to put on a show. It really does take a village.
After both shows Kyla and Emma wished they had gotten involved in prior years. Now they understand the magic of musical theater.
Thank you so much to our stage crew again! They are just as important as the people in the spotlight because we wouldn’t be able to have a show without them! We hope to see more people get involved in future productions!
