Kathryn Newton and Kyle Allen star in the movie, “The Map of Tiny Perfect Things,” directed by Ian Samuels. In this PG-13, “funny, feel-good, and quirky” movie, a boy named Mark has to repeat the same day over and over again. Every morning at exactly midnight, his day completely starts over again. He wakes up to everything being the same as the day before. For some reason no one knows about it because anyone he interacts with during that day, they do not remember anything about it the next day. Other than him, he meets a girl, Margaret, who also goes through the same experience.
In the beginning Mark was just doing the same thing every day, until he met Margaret. When she first came into the picture, she had caught a ball that was supposed to hit another girl. Just like it had done every day, before she had come. After that, Mark went looking for Margaret every day until he found her at a restaurant. Once they meet, they become good friends and spend every day together, since they are the only people that are experiencing this.
My favorite character is Mark’s best friend Henry. I think he is a funny character because he jokes around most of the time, then has no clue the next day that he had already done the same thing the day before. There is a lot of dramatic irony in this movie, especially when Mark tells Henry about meeting Margaret and the whole, repeating the same day over and over again. Henry’s character does not know he has already had this conversation with Mark multiple times, but the audience does.
Every day at a certain time, Margaret leaves Mark to go somewhere, but she would not tell him where she was going. For a while he does not know where she goes every night, but when Mark gets hurt and has to go to the hospital, he finds Margaret in the hospital with someone that means a lot to her. This part is kind of sad because that person she sees every night is dying, so Margaret does not want to try and figure out a way to stop the repeating day because she does not want to have to live without this person.
There is not much I do not like about this movie. It is a little cringe, but it overall is a good movie. I would rate it a 4/5 stars.
