AI rapidly raises concerns

AI has been evolving rapidly, raising concerns around the nation. Artificial intelligence has always been something that people have found suspicious. Images, videos, songs, voices, are all now able to be artificially created. The concern starts with all of that.

Music artists are not happy about their voice being put on a song and that song becoming a trend. And yet they are not being paid for it. Songs will trend on the app TikTok that are AI generated, like Lana Del Ray singing “Take me to Church” by Hozier, or Kanye West singing “August” by Taylor Swift. It’s almost an unrecognizable difference as if the artist is singing the song themselves. Legal issues lie ahead. Artists are not being paid for the sound of their voice leading to copyright infringement claims.

An AI, “deep fake,” scene from the classic film “Back to the Future,” went viral a few years ago. The faces of famous actors Robert Downey Jr. and Tom Holland were swapped into the two characters of Doc and Marty McFly. The technology looked very realistic, making it look like the actors were really there rolling the scene. Tom Holland reacted to the clip with concern, saying “someone stole my face” when he first initially saw the video. Adding “I should call my lawyer cause that’s definitely illegal.” What could this mean for the future of Hollywood?

Taylor Swift has recently been in a legal battle with explicit AI images that were generated of her. These images were being shared around the internet and rightfully so she should take legal action. Having somebody exposing explicit fake images of you should be considered sexual misconduct. Political aspects were discussed after this, talking of banning AI and the potential consequences it has on our society.

Schools are starting to notice the commonality of AI among students. They are using it to write essays, answer questions, and even solve math problems. This leaves teachers now with the concern if their students are truthfully completing assignments. Some educators now feel as if they need to enforce paper work to try and prevent AI usage.

What if AI gets so out of control that crimes start to be committed with it, framing people because you saw a video of them doing something, but was it really them? AI keeps advancing its realistic looks in literal months. In one more year, how will it look? Will we be able to tell the difference between the real and fake? In the future, I can predict it being used in politics to frame competitors, people going to jail for a video of them committing an act that was completely AI-generated. I don’t particularly see AI ending on a good note.
