If you have read a few of my past articles, you would know that I like Taylor Swift. I LOVE Taylor Swift. I have been a fan since the beginning of her career, and am always caught up with all of her current drama or events.
Last November was the Ticketmaster scandal where Ticketmaster went behind Taylor’s back and betrayed her during the ticket sale for her Eras Tour. If you aren’t familiar, here is an article which I wrote about the situation! I was lucky enough to survive “The Great War” and get my hands on tickets to her show in Pittsburgh on June 16. So this past summer, I got to see her perform in person, and it was amazing! I was in Detroit with my boyfriend a week before the concert I attended, and here’s where the story begins.
Taylor was performing two nights in Detroit on June 9, and June 10. I happened to be in the city, so my boyfriend and I decided to go stand outside of the stadium to hear her voice (as many fans did) and get excited for our upcoming show. We headed to Ford Field and I was ecstatic. On the short drive to the stadium, I was searching TikTok and Instagram for anyone who was selling tickets to this show. Maybe they couldn’t make it, so were trying to sell them last minute for not too bad of a price. Seeing all of the Swifties outside of the stadium in their cute outfits and all of the Taylor-themed activities outside the stadium made me realize just how great the following weekend would be for me. We were desperate to get inside.
I found an account who seemed reliable enough to purchase tickets from. I messaged the girl. She seemed genuine and her account looked real, so with the approval of my boyfriend, we were buying these tickets! The two of us went back and forth a lot, I was scared to send the money and she was trying to convince me and reassure me that she was not going to steal from me. We got the seller to lower the prices to a reasonable price and my boyfriend Venmo-ed her the money.
She did not send the tickets right away, but after a few minutes she said her husband was transferring the tickets right then. But, he never did. The seller then proceeded to tell me that her husband decided that we did not pay enough, and she could not sell them for that cheap. I was standing outside of the stadium absolutely furious. I couldn’t believe this, but I knew we were going to get them sent to us. There was no way we were about to be scammed. Well I was wrong. I was just screaming at her over text and telling her that we had a very clear agreement, I was weary to send her the money in the first place and she was supposed to transfer them to me immediately after the Venmo went through. I was spewing rude messages to this horrible scammer of a person. The scammer was trying to act nice and just was saying her husband would not let her sell the tickets for as cheap as we paid. She demanded that we send even more money, then we would get the tickets. But we both knew that this was not true.
We were still at the stadium, and I was devastated that all that money went to this horrible person. I needed to enjoy the atmosphere around me at that moment. Because after all, I was in the same area as Taylor Swift, and I was going to see her just six short days later.
Still to this day, I cannot believe that something like this has actually happened to me. It is a crazy story that definitely doesn’t happen to everyone, but it is also funny. This could even be a learning experience for anyone who hears about this. So, do NOT buy something from a stranger on Instagram, especially if it is expensive. Here are some screenshots of parts of the real conversation I shared with this stranger.
