Corry Girls Volleyball has always been known for the phenomenal coaching (Kelly Goodsel, Mark Brenner, Pat Goodsel, Amy Allen) and determined athletes. This year, the varsity team has no seniors, instead being led by the starting six juniors and one freshman, Payton McCray-S, Halle Albers- OH, Makenna Moore-Libero, Sadye Dyne-MH, Grace Allen- OH, Aubrey Chase MH, and Allison Sawyer- RS. Along with the other 16 players on the team, the girls are now 5-0 in Region 4 and 10-0 over all.
October 5 we had a double sweep against the Harbor Creek Huskies in our home gym. Tuesday, October 3 the girls visited the Girard Yellow Jackets. The week before on September 27 we welcomed the Seneca Bobcats, the night before Corry traveled to Fairview to face the Tigers. On September 21 we hosted the Mercyhurst Lakers, and two days before we battled the Union City Bears in their den. September 14, the Beavers opened their doors for the Warren Dragons, after earlier that week visiting Clarion High on September 12. September 7 the girls journeyed to CASH as the first away game of the season just a week after the season opener against Greenville High School on August 31.
The girls will go on to play four more games over the next two weeks facing North Western High school on the 10th, following with the Ft. LeBoeuf Bison on October 12. The following week we will face the North East Grape Pickers on October 17th, and two days later the Meadville Bulldogs on the 19. With hopes to remain undefeated as they continue their season.
I asked junior starting middle hitter, Sadye Dyne how she feels about how the season has been so far and how she thinks it will continue to be. Dyne said, ” I feel that so far it’s going really well. I’m proud of my team and the way everyone has progressed. I definitely feel confident about the rest of the year and I can’t wait to beat the North East Grape Pickers .”
I also asked the starting setter, Junior Payton McCray the same question and she said, “I feel great about this season. I think we have all really stepped up this year and each taken a very important role on the team, and we are working together really well. I think as it continues we will grow more as a team and continue to practice and get better ending up in D10 finals and state playoffs. ”
