Corry band marches to victory

Last weekend, the Corry marching band and and color guard took part at a competition in Bradford. They competed against five other bands in their class, and were joined by an additional six bands in another class. The group worked tirelessly together to create a great performance. The band and color guard’s commitment helped the Beavers claim the winning title over the other schools.

Band director Tristan McCray stated, “The band had an outstanding show and really showcased their hard work since the previous competition.”

For their competition, they performed four songs from their show title, “Marching Through Time.” They started with, “Oh What a Beautiful Morning,” thenĀ  proceeded to “9 to 5,” “5 o’clock World,” and ended with “Oh What a Night (December 1963).” One highlight of their performance was the fact that all band members learned, and remembered, a line dance to do while performing “9 to 5.” Another highlight was the enthusiasm from the crowd, as during one song they got a good laugh from the audience.

When asked about the improvement of the band and color guard from last year to this year, Mr. McCray stated, “…particularly this year the color guard (flags) have shown marked improvement in both technical skills and portraying emotion (smiling!).” Anyone who drives by the practice field outside of the school has more than likely seen the band and color guard putting in copious hours of hard work. The improvement of both groups cannot help but be noticed, especially after a successful competition like last week.

One thing Mr. McCray is looking forward to most about this year is seeing how much the two groups can keep improving until the end of the season. He said, “We have high expectations, but with all the hard work the students have been putting in, I think we can achieve a great placement at Championships in Erie on October 28.” Through the band and color guard’s countless hours of practice and dedication, a great placement looks very feasible.

On behalf of all of Corry, congratulations Corry marching band and color guard on a well-earned first place last weekend in Bradford.
