On Friday, April 21, the Corry “Beaver Tales” staff and the Global Media crew went on a field trip to St. Bonaventure University. St. Bonaventure is a private Catholic university in New York that was established in 1858. When the students first arrived, they heard from the Professor and Jandoli School Dean Aaron Chimbel, who talked about all the things the university had to offer.

On the field trip, the students attended workshops to better understand some of the strategies behind journalism. Whether that was learning about how to add depth to your writing by noticing more details with Dr. Chris Mackowski, conspiracy theories in the media and how people cause disinformation with Dr. Pauline Hoffmann, or sports broadcasting with Rick Karnath.

Before the trip, several writers from “Beaver Tales” staff submitted past articles into a writing contest St. Bonaventure was holding for the visiting schools. None other than our editor-in-chief Emma Minnick won the writing contest for her article “The epidemic of being chronically online” out of 16 schools who registered!
