The Pittsburgh Pirates are the talk of Major league Baseball.

They currently are in first place in the NL Central, have the best record in the National League at 18-10, and just signed their star player to a long-term contract extension.

Star outfielder Bryan Reynolds signed an eight-year, $106 millionĀ  contract this past Tuesday. Reynolds and the Pirates have been in a contract limbo since spring training, when Reynolds requested a trade after the Pirates failed to make an offer that his party liked. This added to the urgency, as there was no deal made coming out of spring training. This lead many people to believe that Reynolds was going to get dealt at this year’s deadline.

Now, with the surprising start that the Buccos have had, they are feeling generous. They’ve extended their manager, Derek Shelton, and now they’ve locked up their star player until at least 2031.
