Last weekend the new animated movie “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” was released.  The audience watched Mario as he fought alongside Princess Peach, to bring down the iconic turtle villain Bowser, who has just kidnapped Luigi and plans on taking over the world.

Over Easter weekend, “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” crushed the box office, grossing a whole $204.7 million in the domestic box office and $377 million globally. The animated film had passed several franchises in the process including “Fast & Furious” and “Jurassic World.” Analysts believe that it will be the first movie of 2023 to cross a billion dollars.

“The Super Mario Bros. Movie” is breaking records left and right, now being the highest grossing video game movie adaptation ever. The animation is already receiving Oscar buzz for Jack Black’s original song he sang in the film titled “Peaches,”  with sources saying that the track is eligible for the Best Original Song category.

If you haven’t seen “The Super Mario Bros. Movie,” you can see it in theaters or rent it on home streaming services. If you have seen it, do you agree with the grossing numbers and nomination rumors?
