Taylor Swift is in her ‘Eras Tour’ era
March 30, 2023
After months of agonizing anticipation, Taylor Swift’s “The Eras Tour” has finally arrived. On March 17, 2023, the first show of “The Eras Tour” was held in Glendale, AZ. As it is called “The Eras Tour,” Swift’s limits regarding which albums she would perform songs from was basically nonexistent. From the hours of 11:00 P.M.- 2:00 A.M., Swift sang 44 songs from her wide discography, performing at least one song from each of her 10 albums.
March 17 was definitely an emotional night for every Taylor Swift fan. After the bloody battle that Swifties fought the fateful morning of November 15, 2022 during the Ticketmaster presale for “The Eras Tour ” tickets, fans from all over the country are relieved that the show has finally begun. However, as for the fans who were not able to purchase tickets because of the cancellation of Ticketmaster’s general ticket sale, this time has been spent with various intense feelings. Overall, though, every Swiftie can agree that finally putting an image to a thought has been extremely sentimental and heartwarming.
Before “The Eras Tour,” Swift headlined six concert tours, four one-off concerts, 21 music festivals, and 204 live events. Since the COVID-19 pandemic, however, Swift has released three new albums, as well as two album re-releases. Although she released all of this music, the pandemic strained her ability to perform them live for her fans.
On March 17, Swift was finally able to perform songs from her albums: “Folklore,” “Evermore,” and “Midnights” for the first time ever, all thanks to “The Eras Tour”! She was also able to perform her most anticipated song from the re-recorded release of her fourth studio album “Red”, which is “All Too Well Ten Minute Version (TV).” This song, of course, is her original, 10 minute version, of her song, “All Too Well.” For years, this song has been claimed to be Swift’s most well-written song in her entire discography. After all, it wouldn’t be called “The Eras Tour” without paying homage to songs from her early albums.
Along with “ATWTMV(TV)”, she also sung beloved songs that were released in the dawn of her career, such as: “Tim McGraw” (Debut), “Fearless” (Fearless), and “Enchanted” (Speak Now). Additionally, something that is really special about “The Eras Tour” is that Swift is determined to sing a different song every night of the tour on acoustic guitar. The opening night she sang her song “mirrorball” from her album “Folklore”, which is a song about the different facades the singer puts on for the world in order to maintain a ‘perfect’ image, comparing herself to that of a “mirrorball” that is just as fragile as it is pretty. This song was created by Swift in order to teach her audience that it is okay to be imperfect, which is why she chose it to be the first acoustic cover of the 50+ more shows to come.
One of the biggest aspects of “The Eras Tour” has been the extreme costume planning from the fans. It is no doubt that Swifties have put in the work to create their elaborate and over the top outfits for the concert. Since “The Eras Tour” is a broad theme that basically covers the duration of Swift’s entire career, fans have taken it upon themselves to attend dressed as their favorite Taylor Swift era, song, song lyric, album, music video costume, or even inside jokes between the star and her Swifties. One of my personal favorites is an outfit inspired by the iconic lyric from Swift’s song “the last great American dynasty” where she says, “…and in a feud with her neighbor, she stole his dog and dyed it key-lime green.” The fans really took this line and showed up to the concert dressed as a key-lime green dog. Another example of the intricate outfits is the Swifties arriving to the concert dressed as cats, which not only symbolize Swift’s love for cats, but also her role as “Bombaurina” in the 2019 film adaptation of “Cats.”
All in all, Taylor Swift’s “The Eras Tour” has been a huge success with only two completed shows thus far. It is exciting to see what Swift has been planning all of this time and truly magical to see it all unravel. Currently, Swift is on her way to Nevada for her next show, and I can not wait to see what she has in store.
