The most-anticipated rap album of 2023

Ashton Mineo, Reporter

Overall, 2022 was an exciting year for music, especially rap music. A lot of high profile rappers dropped albums. Drake, Jack Harlow, Gunna, Lil Baby, Future, JID, Denzel Curry, and many more all released new music. Even the reclusive Kendrick Lamar dropped an album for the first time since 2017.

Despite all the big names, Travis Scott did not drop an album. He has not released a new album since his 2018 release: “Astroworld.” The album, “Utopia,” was rumored to come out some time near the end of 2021 or the very beginning of 2022. Due to the tragic events that happened in November 2021 at the Astroworld event, “Utopia” was unfortunately pushed back. That being said, there is optimism that his much anticipated new album will drop this year.

Travis Scott recently stated that he would drop Utopia after other rappers on his record label such as Sheck Wes, SoFaygo, and Don Toliver release their albums. We are still awaiting albums from Sheck Wes and SoFaygo, but Don Toliver dropped his album last Friday. Even more recently, Travis has confirmed that Utopia will drop in June 2023. During his hiatus, Travis has put out a couple of features on hit albums such as “Her Loss” and “Heroes and Villains.” Travis is putting out great performances, which just enhances the excitement for the upcoming album.

Travis is known for making great albums such as “Rodeo” and “Astroworld,” so there is reason to believe that we could have a classic on our hands with “Utopia.” Travis always gathers a star-studded feature lineup for his albums, so I expect nothing less for “Utopia.” Scott has been working with a variety of different artists that I’m sure fans would love to see on his new album.

Travis is highly regarded within the rap community, and he is still building his legacy. He is known as one of the best trap and psychedelic rap artists, as he dominated the 2010s with his unique sound and tremendous production. It is easy to see why Travis’ upcoming album is so highly anticipated. I am excited to see what Travis has in store after years of work on this album.
